Christmas Portraits with the Liao Family
Posted on December 14, 2008

This morning we had the lovely Liao family in our studio for Christmas portraits! Our original plan was to take portraits out near the University of New Mexico, since they live near there. However, when we woke up this morning, the wind was howling at about 40 mph, and made shooting outdoors impossible. Thankfully, they were able to come out to the studio and we moved the whole works indoors. They are such a sweet family, and we really enjoyed spending our morning with them. Kevin, the youngest, is 7 years old, and was quite the ham for the camera, once he figured out we didn’t bite! We got him smiling by getting him to say and do all sorts of funny things, and actually, one of my favorite photos of the entire shoot is the one of Kevin making antlers with his hands. He was a real cutie.
They did a great job of dressing for their portraits – They didn’t match totally, but rather coordinated well, which always looks so nice. Sometimes it’s better to just get a theme going for family portraits, rather than everyone doing their own thing, or putting everyone in identical outfits. It really preserves the individuality of each person!
Wen and family, thank you so much for making the trek to the studio today, we hope you all have a Merry Christmas! Here’s a couple more of our favorites!

Out in the desert with the Tellez Family!
Posted on November 30, 2008
What a great family! This afternoon we got to go out and hang out with the Tellez family, for their family photos. They really wanted the Organ Mountains in the background, so we headed out to one of our favorite spots in the desert. We stomped around until we found just the right spot.
Since we needed a good classic family photo for Christmas, we took that first. The kids did so great, and really cooperated with all the hullaballoo about smiling and turning this way and that. Poor Kristen, their youngest daughter, was having a hard time with all the pricklies out there, so she went up on Dad’s shoulders for awhile.
Debbie and Gilbert wanted some photos of the kids as a group, and by themselves, and since they were so awesome, we did a lot of really fun stuff. I brought out “the red chair” and let the kids do some fun poses with it – Dominik did his best karate jump for me, and Lauren showed me her best “Top Model” poses. Kristen is just cute all by herself, she doesn’t even have to try!
Here’s a few more shots from our session! It was a really great time you guys, I had a lot of fun! Thanks for coming!

The Bernal Family
Posted on November 26, 2008
This afternoon the Bernal family came to our studio for their portrait session. Now for some reason, the first time we met with Celeste, I really thought her kids were…. well, kids; Celeste is so beautiful and young, I just assumed her kids would be much younger. Imagine my surprise when we got to meet them today – she has two handsome young men, and a 9 year old daughter who Jason and I were both just in awe of. Makayla is going to break some serious hearts.
We started off in the studio, working on re-creating a shot that Celeste has hanging in her house that she’d like updated. Then we headed up the road a bit to one of my favorite fences for a few outdoor shots.
We had a ton of fun with you guys! Thanks for coming, and have a great Thanksgiving!

Leiberman Family Portrait
Posted on October 19, 2008
Rachelle and Asher had their extended family in town this weekend for a baby shower; while everyone was here, we took some photos of the family down on the Rio Grande.
Those three kids are always such fun! Naomi was very interested in my flash; she asked to hold it about 3 times. We’re waiting for Benjamin to start walking. He’s sure trying as hard as he can!
I’ll be updating the article on dressing for family portraits after seeing how they did this – each couple or family group wore a different earth-tone top with blue jeans, so while everyone matches, you can tell who’s with who just by what color shirt they’re wearing.
