The DeVine Family Portraits!

Posted on February 8, 2009

Today we got to photograph the DeVine kids – Tanner, Tatum, Taylor, and Tristan! They were super cute of course! We thought we’d break out the pettiskirt for Tatum, but she really wasn’t that into it – I guess with three brothers, she’s a little bit of a tomboy! We still got some cute stuff of them, and a few of the boys together as well. It was a wild and crazy session, but we sure did have fun! Their mom, Jennifer, is a hair stylist at “A Cut Above” here in Las Cruces, and she’s looking forward to having some cute portraits of her kids to put on the walls of her salon! We’re planning on ordering her some standouts or gallery wraps to go in a certain space on her wall, so if you need a haircut, stop in and I bet you’ll see her adorable family up there!

Here’s a few from the session!

McCool Family

Posted on January 4, 2009

McCool FamilyThe McCools gave us a call for their annual family photo this holiday season; we took all 17 of them out into the desert between Christmas and New Years. Most of the family is from other, much colder, parts of the country, so the winter sun was a nice change. Everyone was so great to work with, even after the sun dropped behind A mountain and the temperature started to drop. Thanks for a great session guys; I hope your dinner at SI was as exemplary as our experiences there have been!

Last minute!

edit-img_5230Merry Christmas everyone! It’s been a really exciting year here at Screaming Light Studios, and we wanted to take a moment to tell everyone THANK YOU for such an awesome year. We attended so many beautiful weddings, met so many wonderful kids, and photographed some amazing families, and we are so thankful for all of you! We would never have made it this far without such great clients and friends.

The upcoming year is going to bring some really great promotions, so make sure you keep checking in to see what’s happening! As I sit here at my computer, and look at the huge whiteboard behind it, I have to smile knowing what we’ve got planned. Every single month has a new surprise, and we think you’ll be as excited as we are about 2009!edit-img_5236

The studio is closing for Christmas, but we will be back on December 30th! As sort of my last hurrah before the holidays, I made a special trip out with Suzanne and Julio this morning. Their engagement photos were posted a couple of days ago, but as we were driving home from that shoot, Suzanne was wishing they’d brought their NMSU sweatshirts for some photos at the University. We decided that we’d meet up this morning and get those shots, and I’m sure glad we did. Since it’s the holidays, both of us had our kids with us as assistants… and they were so well behaved. Thanks for meeting me out there you guys, and have a happy holiday! I’ve posted my two favorite shots from this morning!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Suzanna + Julio Engagement Session

Posted on December 22, 2008

img_5210Things are winding down for the year here at Screaming Light Studios, but on Sunday, I got to go out and spend some time with Suzanna and her fiance Julio! They’re getting married on Valentines Day next year, and it was time to start thinking about doing their engagement session. We’re really excited about their wedding, which is taking place at Mountain Annie’s in Ruidoso. Everyone is hoping for at least a little snow – winter weddings are always so special, and snow would literally be icing on the cake! Keep your fingers crossed!

We met up Sunday afternoon, and headed up Dripping Springs road to get some “outdoorsy” shots of them with the Organs in the background. You can’t go wrong with Las Cruces beautiful mountains as a backdrop! These two are just so photogenic, and they’re so obviously into each other that it really was a lot of fun to photograph them. Suzanna and I really did not wear appropriate footwear for hiking around in the desert, but we managed to avoid the larger and nastier cactus, and find some big rocks to climb on. I do admit to getting a few thorns, but we fared pretty well. The weather could not have been more beautiful for our session; a bit chilly in the shade perhaps, but it was nice.

Once we got done out in the desert, we stopped by the Farm and Ranch Museum to get a couple of shots by an old truck they have – which is one of my favorite places to shoot. We didn’t hang out too long though – even though it was Sunday afternoon, there were still a few people milling around the place, and we really didn’t want to disturb the guests, so we moved on to Mesilla, which is of course, everyone’s favorite place to shoot. Really, you can’t go wrong in Mesilla. Old brick walls, awesome alleys, and an old church. Perfect!

Here are a few favorites from their session, with a big congratulations and lots of anticipation for their wedding!

Be sure to check back in February for photos of their wedding! There are a couple more that I’ll be putting these up on the fan page at Facebook as well, so don’t forget to become a fan of the page!

Christmas Portraits with the Liao Family

Posted on December 14, 2008

This morning we had the lovely Liao family in our studio for Christmas portraits! Our original plan was to take portraits out near the University of New Mexico, since they live near there. However, when we woke up this morning, the wind was howling at about 40 mph, and made shooting outdoors impossible. Thankfully, they were able to come out to the studio and we moved the whole works indoors. They are such a sweet family, and we really enjoyed spending our morning with them. Kevin, the youngest, is 7 years old, and was quite the ham for the camera, once he figured out we didn’t bite! We got him smiling by getting him to say and do all sorts of funny things, and actually, one of my favorite photos of the entire shoot is the one of Kevin making antlers with his hands. He was a real cutie.

They did a great job of dressing for their portraits – They didn’t match totally, but rather coordinated well, which always looks so nice. Sometimes it’s better to just get a theme going for family portraits, rather than everyone doing their own thing, or putting everyone in identical outfits. It really preserves the individuality of each person!

Wen and family, thank you so much for making the trek to the studio today, we hope you all have a Merry Christmas! Here’s a couple more of our favorites!

Esther & Alice: At Last!

Posted on December 7, 2008

This weekend, we were so honored to shoot the wedding of two people who have been some of the most awesome clients ever. I know you think I’m probably just saying that, but it’s true- we really enjoy working with Esther and Alice, and it was truly fun to spend their special day with them! I know this has been a long time coming you two, and I am so excited for you both!

First, we got up early, and I drove down to El Paso to the Hilton Garden Inn, where Esther had stayed the night, and was prepping for the day’s events. Both her stylist and makeup artist were there, and we got some cool stuff of the makeup application and hair. I took a bunch of pictures of various little details while the finishing touches were done, and then…. it was time to get in the dress! The getting dressed part was actually pretty fun, and made for some great photos – there were petticoats everywhere! Once we got Esther dressed, it was time for me to drive back to Las Cruces and head for the church.

Jason met Alice at Men’s Wearhouse, where the staff had Alice’s tux pressed and ready to go. After a stop by the shoe store for an extra pair of Chucks, and by the liquor store for a bottle of wine, they swung by Alice’s place to grab her brother and his wife before heading north to meet us at the church.

Marie was already at the church, which was a good thing: we ended up having to send her out to Wal-Mart for an extra vase for the sand ceremony. Energy was pretty high at the church, and I have to admit, we were pretty excited too. The church was not one we’d been in before, but one we certainly hope to go back to. Holy Family Ecumenical Catholic is a little off the beaten path, but is truly a unique church. The priest, Father Jim, is about as easy going as they come, and he was really a pleasure to work with. He did a wonderful ceremony, and of course, it made me cry. (For some reason, I cry at almost every wedding we shoot. I’m a dork!)

After the ceremony, we headed over to some nearby train tracks for a couple of shots I had in mind. Then we drove over to Young Park, and took a few shots there as well. We still had time for a few more images over at Hotel Encanto, and then we headed back over to the Hilton in El Paso for the reception!

I was so surprised! When we’d left the Hilton earlier that morning, the reception hall was just starting to take shape. When we walked in that evening, it had been transformed. The folks at Elite Events had really done a nice job of creating an amazing atmosphere. They had some really neat up-lighting, and the table center pieces were really cool as well. They also had a candy bar- where you could grab a little box, and put a bunch of different candies in it and take it home as a favor. It was a neat idea, and went over great. After much dancing, and a great dinner, the party was winding down, and we wished Esther and Alice a happy honeymoon, and headed home.

Esther and Alice, we really enjoyed ourselves, and we can’t wait to show you some more images! We hope you like these teasers here on the blog, and we’re sure your album is going to be really awesome!
