Grants Senior Portraits: Michelle

Yesterday Michelle, her mom, and her best friend came down to Las Cruces to have Michelle’s High School Senior Portraits taken – all the way from Grants! Michelle is super gorgeous – beautiful red hair and a gorgeous smile! We were so excited for her session! We’d been planning for her session for awhile now, and we couldn’t have been blessed with better weather. Fall is in full color here in the Mesilla Valley, and we took full advantage of the wonderful light out there!

When Michelle called us, she was super excited about our Rio Grande sessions, and really wanted some shots in the river. We were a little nervous about it, I’ll admit – being the end of November, I was worried that we’d all freeze to death in the Rio. Yes, it was cold. It was absolutely worth it! The good news is, the river is low right now, so rather than the usual hip deep wading we do during these sessions, it was only shin high. Cold though it was, we had the best time splashing around, and laughing at each other.

Michelle, we had such a great time with you and your family, thanks for making the four hour drive to see us! Best wishes for your senior year!

College Senior Portraits: Darcell

Darcell is about to graduate from NMSU in Biology, and is then headed off to vet school! What an accomplishment! When her mom contacted us about shooting some portraits for her graduation announcements, we decided to capture some images of her around Las Cruces, as well as trying to get some shots of her with the fall colors. Since Biology is her major, we headed over to NMSU as well as some other places around town and had a blast shooting!

Las Cruces High School Senior: Tina

Well, senior yearbook deadline is nearly upon us, but things haven’t slowed down much here at the studio! Yesterday Jason and I took Tina out for her senior portraits here in Las Cruces! We totally lucked out – for one, Tina has a GREAT smile, and is so easy to be around it’s ridiculous. Second – her boyfriend lives in an awesome house down on Alameda, and we shot quite a few of her portraits there. It couldn’t have been more beautiful! Loved the porch, and the light was so pretty out there!

After we finished up there, we headed down to Tina’s church, where she really wanted to get some shots. Her church is important to her, and I loved that she wanted to incorporate it into her photos. Once we’d gotten some shots there, we headed out to get a few in front of the Organ Mountains, a favorite this year with seniors and families alike.

Tina, we had a ton of fun with you!

Megan: Onate Senior

Megan is in the choir at Onate, and also very involved in drama, so it was natural to take her downtown for images at the Black Box and Rio Grande theatres. As usual, we did a few in the studio before heading out. She had a brand new yellow coat that she wore for the session, and we also shot a few in her choir dress. My favorites may just be the ones with her cute hat; they turned out with a great Broadway flair.

Dayana: Mayfield Senior

Dayana took her piano and sketchbooks to the foot of the Organ Mountains for some amazing portraits last week. The partly-cloudy sky at sunset provided great shadows and contrast for her session, and having the piano out in the desert provided a totally different type of contrast! Dayana’s Mom and Dad and brother helped us get the piano in place; it was much too awkward for one person to move. We think the resulting images were completely worth the hassle though!

Devon: Oñate Senior

Devon’s way into football at Oñate – so we shot his session on and around the practice field. Although he’s all about football, Devon wants to study something in the entertainment industries in collage, possibly sound recording engineering. The Oñate practice field has a great view of the Organ Mountains. We lucked out during his session: the coach was viewing tapes in the locker room, so we were able to do some shots in there as well. A great senior session – thanks Devon!

Dahisy: Senior Portraits

Dahisy’s senior portraits were a blast to shoot! Dahisy is fun and funky, so we took her, Amanda, Dahisy’s funky mismatched dress, and our new zebra-print chair up to Organ for some fun and funky shots in the setting sun. The light was orange when we started, and by the time we finished, the sun had fallen below the mountains. In between, we got some really incredible shots of Dahisy being Dahisy!

Sierra: Mayfield Senior Portraits

Sierra’s senior portraits were taken at her home; her dad runs a garage specializing in vintage hot rods out of the house, so the area provided a wide variety of spots (and cool cars, and a mini junkyard full of vintage clunkers) to work with!

Las Cruces High School Jazz Band

A while back, the director of the Las Cruces High School Jazz Band got ahold of us, after meeting us at one of our weddings – Carrie Klofach is a good friend of his, and he even performed at her wedding. (which was awesome by the way). Trae was tired of the same old boring shots of bands he kept seeing in the programs, the ol’ “line them up and shoot them” technique that we’re not just overly fond of ourselves. So we met up with him, and tried to get a feel for what he envisioned for his band.

We took everyone out into the desert, with their instruments, and ended up having a wonderful time photographing these talented musicians! Here’s my favorites from the session!

Mayfield Senior Portraits: Mariah!

It was such a treat to get to photograph Mariah on Monday! We’d been looking forward to her session ever since we first met them in the studio – she had very definite plans for her senior pictures, and there are actually more to come! Mariah decided she wants to do a session actually in the Rio Grande! So we’ll be taking her out soon, and doing some great shots in the river.

We started out Mariah’s session over at Field of Dreams, where we shot her in her cheerleading uniform. We had her doing all kinds of stuff out there on the field, and even though the wind was starting to pick up, and blowing her hair all over the place, we still came away with some really great stuff.

After we finished at the field, we headed out to our super favorite spot on the Rio Grande, and did some stuff on the banks, and with the mountains in the background. My favorite shot of the night (possibly of all time, but give us a week, lol) is the one of Mariah walking through the grass, with everything golden from the setting sun. We were so excited when we saw the beautiful light that we immediately sent her out there to walk through it. Simply beautiful.

We had so much fun Mariah! Thanks for shooting with us!
