Las Cruces Wedding: Sandra and Nyman in Old Mesilla

Posted on April 26, 2009

On Friday, Marie, Shane and I photographed Sandra and Nyman’s wedding in the historic San Albino Cathedral in Old Mesilla. The afternoon started with the bride at her mother’s house for preparations, and the groom getting ready with his family at his house in Picacho Hills. As soon as they were dressed, we headed down to Mesilla Plaza.

The wedding ceremony was very exclusive, and very traditional. Monsignor gave a great sermon, we got some awesome shots outside and around Mesilla (even though I lost a contact and had to shoot one-eyed!), and then we walked over to the Double Eagle Steakhouse for dinner.

Friday was also Nyman’s birthday, and his mom’s as well. Stephanie at Let Them Eat Cake! surpassed herself with the wedding cake, and did two smaller cakes for the birthdays. The wedding cake was key lime flavored (and easily the best cake, wedding or otherwise, I have ever had the privilege of eating); the ivory fondant was covered with an opalescent powder that perfectly mimicked the folds and colors of Sandra’s dress. Accented with the pale flowers from her bouquet, the cake was stunning. Nyman’s birthday cake was in the shape of a trout’s head breaking above the water; it looked so real that Nyman threatened to break out the fly rod!

After they cut the cake, Sandra and Nyman headed back to their house for a gathering of friends. Cake and punch were served, and we got some images of the two of them on their back porch, which overlooks the lights of Las Cruces. The happy couple and their family had spent part of the week before the wedding working on the landscaping in the back yard; the lush growth overflowing the yard was testament to their success.

Roz was so disappointed to have to sit this wedding out. When we booked her wedding (only a week before!), Sandra mentioned that she’d had her gallbladder removed recently. Maybe the mention jinxed Roz, because although she was disappointed, she wasn’t yet up to shooting a full wedding after her recent surgery. Whatever the cause, Roz has some awesome shots in mind for the bridal session we’re going to do with Sandra and Nyman when they get back from their honeymoon!

Your montages are great! I can see your artistry in not just capturing beautiful work but creating visions for people to see your work! Great job!

I really was upset to not get to shoot at this wedding – and, let me just say, do you see those biscochos up there? Those were some FINE biscochos. And I ate the cake Sandra sent home for me, and Jason’s not kidding, it was AMAZING.

I’m super excited about your after session guys! Yay!
